“Critical Cultural Awareness in Migration Societies” – Theory and Practice

The RECOdE Spring School for M.A. students took place in the middle of April 2024 at the University of Stavanger. Based on our previous project activities such as the elaboration of a “Framework for Critical Cultural Awareness” and the development of B.A/M.A. curricula and teaching and didactic methods, the focus of the week was on the preparation of students for working with children and families in migration societies and in a globalized world. We critically reflected cultural and unequal practices and policies in the field of ECEC and developed a cultural and inequality sensitive communication and attitude with our participants. We also could enjoy an interesting field trip to the beautiful Jatta kindergarten in Stavanger.

In total, 27 students attended and our participants–teachers and students–came from various European states like Ireland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Poland, and France.

We thank all the participants for great discussions, the Jatta kindergarten for the invitation and impressions, and the local organization committee–especially Gunnar Magnus and Mariella–for the great organization and for having the Spring School at the University of Stavanger!

Here, you can find some impressions of the week!
